The British government told Starmer that Merz and Macron had spoken about the situation in the Gaza Strip, which they considered to be appalling. They emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire and that Israel must lift all restrictions on aid so that the suffering people in Gaza can be supplied with food.
Call for an end to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza
Germany, France and Great Britain had already published a statement on Friday in which they demanded an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza war and the immediate and unconditional release of all Israeli hostages held by the terrorist organization Hamas in the coastal region. The humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip must come to an immediate end. Israel must fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law.
The joint statement also said: "We are ready to take further measures to support an immediate ceasefire and a political process that leads to lasting security and peace for Israelis, Palestinians and the entire region."
