The government of US President Donald Trump has sued the state of New York over its migration policy. "This is a new Department of Justice, and we are taking steps to protect Americans," said Attorney General Pam Bondi at her first press conference in Washington. She was sworn into office last week.

Bondi accused the state of "prioritizing illegal aliens over American citizens". She was referring to a law that, according to the complaint, allows people in New York to obtain a driver's license regardless of their residency status. However, the use of that information for immigration enforcement is restricted, she said. "That stops today," Bondi said.
Threat against other states
A similar lawsuit has already been filed against the state of Illinois, he said. "We've done it with Illinois - strike one. Strike two is New York. And if your state doesn't follow federal law, you're next," the Attorney General continued. She expects the civil suit to be successful because the Supreme Court will ultimately rule in favor of the government.
Governor: Are proud of immigration
The current regulation allows the authorities to access databases in New York with a court order, announced New York Governor Kathy Hochul. She will not allow federal investigators or Elon Musk's "dubious" cost-cutting committee (Doge) to gain unfettered access to the data of all New Yorkers. "New York is proud that immigrants from all over the world come here in search of a better life."
Trump wants to take rigorous action against immigrants who enter the country illegally or who are already in the USA without valid residence status. Several ministries have been instructed to work towards this goal, including deploying more US soldiers to support border guards on the border with Mexico.
