Militant forces in Lebanon have fired 55 missiles at the northern Israeli city of Safed and its surroundings. The rockets and drones were intercepted by Israeli air defenses or hit uninhabited areas, according to the Israeli military. No people were injured. However, the missile strikes caused fires in the vegetation, as reported by local media.

According to the Israeli army, it bombed several rocket positions of the Shiite militia Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, from which attacks on Israel had previously been launched. The pro-Iranian group announced that one of its fighters had been killed in the attacks, without giving further details.

Since the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Islamist Hamas almost a year ago, there have been military confrontations between the Israeli army and Hezbollah in the border area between the two countries on an almost daily basis. There have been casualties on both sides - most of them members of Hezbollah. According to its own statements, Hezbollah is acting in solidarity with Hamas.
