The Russian government is initially leaving open the possibility of a meeting between representatives of the USA and Russia on the fringes of the Security Conference in Munich. "So far we have nothing to say about this," explained Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. What is certain, however, is that Russia is not officially taking part in the MSC; no representatives of the country have been invited.

US President Donald Trump had announced that the conference would be used for negotiations. He had claimed that high-ranking representatives from the USA, Russia and Ukraine would meet. Russia has not yet confirmed this. MSC CEO Christoph Heusgen said: "We don't know about this either. We have a number of Russians, but they are opposition politicians." However, this also only applies to the official part of the security conference.

Meanwhile, Foreign Office spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a press briefing that Moscow had not been invited to the MSC for several years. "This is a political, a strange decision", but the consequence of this is that no official representatives will be there this year either. "I can assure you of that," said Zakharova.
