The Russian domestic intelligence service FSB claims to have prevented the hijacking of a MiG-31 fighter jet and its Kinschal hypersonic missile by Ukraine. A Russian pilot was supposed to be enticed to desert with his plane and head for the NATO base Constanta in Romania for an alleged three million US dollars. This was announced by the FSB in Moscow. The FSB blamed the Ukrainian military intelligence service HUR and British services for the plan.

According to the statement, the MiG was to have been shot down on its approach to Constanta. There were no sources outside the FSB for this. The secret service provided them with alleged video evidence. It presented it as if the contact with a Russian pilot had been made via the journalistic research network Bellingcat. Bellingcat denied any involvement in the alleged action. All allegations are false.

The FSB repeatedly reports on alleged investigative successes against terrorists or the uncovering of Ukrainian attack plans, which can rarely be verified. Such publications are also part of Russia's psychological warfare.

Russian helicopter pilot hijacked his plane

In 2023, a Russian helicopter pilot defected to Ukraine with his Mi-8 aircraft. He was shot dead in Spain a year later. The militarily weaker Ukraine repeatedly tries to inflict spectacular blows on Russia that are embarrassing for the Moscow leadership. This includes a highly complex attack in June this year: in addition to several Russian air bases, mini-drones were launched from trucks and attacked strategic bombers.
