According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli military has killed the brother of former Hamas leader Jihia al-Sinwar, Mohammed al-Sinwar. In a speech in parliament, Netanyahu listed several Hamas leaders killed by Israel, including Mohammed al-Sinwar. Military and Hamas have not yet commented
Following an Israeli attack on a hospital in Chan Junis in the southern Gaza Strip more than two weeks ago, Israeli media reported that the attack had been aimed at Mohammed al-Sinwar. Defense Minister Israel Katz recently said that al-Sinwar had "by all indications been eliminated" in the attack. Israel's army has not yet officially confirmed his death. Hamas has also not yet commented on the matter.
Several people were killed in the attack. The Israeli army announced without further details that it was a "precise attack on Hamas terrorists in a command and control center".
After the Israeli military killed Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif last year, al-Sinwar became the new head of Hamas' armed wing, the so-called Qassam Brigades.
