Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his regret following an Israeli attack in the southern Gaza Strip that left several people dead. "Israel deeply regrets the tragic accident that occurred today at the Nasser Hospital in Gaza," said a statement issued by Prime Minister Netanyahu's office in the evening.
According to the hospital, 19 people, including five journalists, were killed in the Israeli attack this morning at the clinic in Chan Junis. The Hamas-controlled health authority spoke of 20 dead.
Israel values the work of journalists, medical staff and all civilians, the statement continued. The military is conducting a "thorough investigation" following the incident. At the same time, Netanyahu emphasized that Israel's war was directed against Hamas. "Our just goals are the defeat of Hamas and the return of our hostages to their homes."
