Russian missiles and kamikaze drones have struck the Ukrainian capital Kiev in another night-time attack. Explosions were reported shortly after midnight and later in the morning. At least two people were killed and more than ten injured, including children, according to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry. According to the authorities, several residential buildings in various districts were damaged. According to reports, missile alarms were also triggered in other parts of the country.

Kiev is one of the most frequent targets of Russian airstrikes. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, seven people were killed there on Tuesday night in attacks using ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, hypersonic missiles and drones. The Ukrainian Energy Ministry subsequently spoke of a "massive combined attack".

Talks on possible peace solutions underway

Ukraine has been defending itself against a large-scale Russian invasion with Western help since February 2022. Especially at night, the invaders repeatedly attack Ukrainian cities with missiles, glide bombs and drones. Conversely, the Ukrainian army is also attacking targets in Russia as part of its defensive campaign, although the casualties and damage there are nowhere near as devastating as in Ukraine.

Talks are currently underway between Ukraine, its European allies and the USA on a basis for a possible peace solution. It is still unclear what a sustainable compromise with the aggressor Russia could look like.
