The inauguration was attended by Zurich Health Director Natalie Rickli (SVP), Eleonora Foundation President Martin Vollenwyder, Kispi CEO Georg Schäppi and architect Jacques Herzog.
Vollenwyder spoke of a historic moment. "We have built for generations." Rickli said that the Kispi was indispensable for the medical care of children and young people.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the project of the century took place in 2018. The costs got out of hand. In April of this year, the canton increased the existing loan by CHF 100 million to CHF 250 million, with additional subsidies of CHF 35 million for the current year. The costs for the new building by star architects Herzog & de Meuron have now risen to 761 million francs.
