Landslides had already occurred in the Wagenrunse area in Schwanden GL in 2020. They affected the Niederentalstrasse. This was followed by remediation work.

Two independent experts are now investigating whether responsibilities were breached during this remediation that could have led to the devastating landslides in August 2023, as Glarus Building Insurance Glarnersach announced on Tuesday. It had ordered this investigation. At that time, 30,000 cubic meters of mud buried numerous houses.

The expert report found no injuries. The landslides were not foreseeable. Glarnersach, which suffered damage to buildings amounting to 25 million Swiss francs, has therefore decided not to take legal action, it added.
