In the war with Iran, US President Donald Trump says he no longer wants to conclude an agreement with the country. Instead, it must amount to an "unconditional surrender", he demanded on his Truth Social platform.

Following the end of the war and the election of a "suitable and acceptable" leadership in Tehran, the United States and its allies want to start rebuilding the country. Trump held out the prospect of making Iran "economically bigger, better and stronger than ever before".

On Saturday last week, Israel and the USA began to attack Iran. Head of state and religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the attack. Since then, Iran has responded with counter-attacks.

Trump insists on having a say in new leadership in Iran

In an interview with "Axios" and "Politico" on Thursday, Trump said that he must have a say in the future leadership of Iran. "I have to be involved in the appointment, as I was with Delcy (Rodriguez) in Venezuela," "Axios" quoted him as saying after a telephone conversation with him.

At the same time, he made it clear that he rejects Modshtaba Khamenei, son of the slain Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the new head of state: "Khamenei's son is unacceptable to me. We want someone who will bring harmony and peace to Iran". Modshtaba Khamenei was a "lightweight".

The death of Khamenei has left a power vacuum in the center of Iran. Officially, the Council of Experts appoints the new revolutionary leader. In practice, it is likely to be decided which camp will gain the upper hand in the power structure. In addition to Khamenei's son Modshtaba, the Shiite cleric Sadegh Larijani, ex-President Hassan Ruhani and Hassan Khomeini, grandson of the founder of the revolution, are also being discussed as options.

Israel's army also reportedly attacked and destroyed Ali Khamenei's underground military bunker on Friday. There were initially no reports of possible casualties.

Trump claims: Iran no longer has an air force

According to the US Regional Command for the Middle East (Centcom) on Thursday, US forces have attacked almost 200 targets deep inside Iran in the past 72 hours, including near Tehran.

Trump stated on Thursday that Iran's air defenses and missiles had already been destroyed in whole or in large part. "So they have no more air force, they have no more air defense. All their airplanes are gone," Trump said in Washington. In addition, 60 percent of their missiles and 64 percent of their launchers have been disabled, he said.

This information cannot be independently verified. Alongside the nuclear program and the navy, the US government had previously named Iran's missile program as the most important target of the war.

Even before the war began, representatives of the USA and Iran had been negotiating about Iran's nuclear program, among other things. The USA wanted to prevent the leadership in Tehran from developing nuclear weapons. Iran's government denied such intentions, but was prepared to limit its nuclear program. In return, Tehran demanded the lifting of tough economic sanctions. No tangible progress was visible until the start of the war.
