In addition to Mohammadi, other well-known critics such as the political activist Sepideh Gholian have also been taken into custody, according to a statement published on the Nobel Peace Prize winner's X account and by Iranian human rights activists.

According to the statement, the activists had gathered at a ceremony for the lawyer Chosrow Alikordi, who died a few days ago. The death of the defense lawyer, who also represented political prisoners, has caused great consternation among Iranian human rights activists. There was also speculation about the circumstances of his death. The judiciary stated in the state media that he had died of a heart attack at work.

Mohammadi had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023. She received it for her fight against the oppression of women and against the death penalty in Iran, as well as for her commitment to human rights and freedom. She was most recently serving a long prison sentence in the notorious Ewin prison in Tehran. She was granted parole a good year ago due to health problems.
