The delivery of military equipment and ammunition worth 500 million US dollars (400 million Swiss francs) is part of the so-called Purl Initiative, Nato announced in Brussels. Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden are participating in the package.

Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte welcomed the move and said that the package would provide Ukraine with urgently needed military equipment before the winter months. Further deliveries should follow,

The so-called Purl Initiative provides for ammunition and weapons manufactured in the USA to be sold to the European allies and Canada - who will then make them available to Ukraine. Purl stands for "Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List". In German, this means something like: Prioritized Requirements List for Ukraine.

The initiative was launched to meet the demands of US President Donald Trump. He is of the opinion that the USA has had far too large a share of support for Ukraine in the past and now wants the other allies to pay for further US military aid. Germany already pledged 500 million US dollars for the initiative some time ago.
