Oil prices are on a rollercoaster ride in the Iran conflict. At least for the moment, the hope of negotiations is causing them to fall again. (archive picture)

Following renewed announcements of negotiations with Iran by US President Donald Trump, oil prices have fallen back below the psychologically important 100 dollar mark. During the Iran war, the price had already briefly climbed to almost 120 dollars.
The price of a barrel (159 liters) of Brent crude oil from the North Sea for delivery in May was slightly lower after Trump's comments, falling by just under four percent within a few minutes.
Before the start of the war, which has been going on for several weeks, it had been between 60 and 70 dollars for several months. The war also caused prices for fuels such as petrol and diesel as well as heating oil to rise significantly.
In response to questions from journalists, Trump had previously said that the Iranians were willing to negotiate: "We're actually talking to the right people, and they really want to make a deal." Iran had previously denied this willingness, and there was initially no official comment from Tehran following the new Trump statements.
