According to this information from Moscow, Orban declared his willingness to contribute to a solution to the crisis by political and diplomatic means. He could use his contacts with Western politicians to this end. According to the Kremlin, Putin explained his view of the situation: Kiev is pursuing a destructive line and continues to rule out the possibility of a peaceful settlement to the conflict.
Orban later merely stated on his Facebook page that the Hungarian side would use all diplomatic means to bring about a ceasefire. Observers concluded that the phone call did not produce any tangible results.
Orban maintains close contacts with Moscow despite the Russian war of aggression. He also paid a surprise visit to Putin in July at the beginning of Hungary's EU Council Presidency. However, this high-handedness earned Orban criticism from his EU colleagues.
