Young people can be seen singing the fascist anthem "Me ne frego" (I don't care). According to Italian media reports, the premises in the center of Parma are also used by the youth organization of the right-wing Fratelli d'Italia (Brothers of Italy).
The Gioventù Nazionale (National Youth) association in question was placed under special supervision by the party leadership in response to the video, reported the newspaper "La Repubblica". The video was recorded on October 28, the anniversary of the "March on Rome", the seizure of power by the fascists of Benito Mussolini (1883-1945) in Italy.
Criticism from opposition parties
In the 30-second video, young men can be heard singing the chorus of the song, which includes references to the triumph of the "Black Shirts", the paramilitary militias of Mussolini's fascists. At the end of the video, the call "Duce" (meaning leader) can be heard several times.
Politicians from the opposition parties were outraged. The mayor of Parma, Michele Guerra, declared: "Parma will not accept, now or ever, the pathetic propaganda of a past and terrible time." The association of the social democratic Partito Democratico (PD) in the Emilia-Romagna region also condemned the incident in the strongest terms.
