The Pakistani capital Islamabad remains sealed off for the third day in a row due to planned protests in support of the imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan. This was reported by the local broadcaster Geo News.

Thousands of security forces and paramilitaries have been deployed. Shipping containers are also blocking the roads. As the police announced in a statement, a policeman died after heavy clashes with demonstrators on Saturday.

Khan had called on his supporters to demonstrate for his release from prison. He was imprisoned in August 2023 after a court found him guilty in a corruption trial and sentenced him to three years in prison.
