A Palestinian cameraman has been killed by Israeli soldiers in the northern Gaza Strip, according to media reports. The Palestinian news agency reported that he was an employee of Palestinian television. He had been fatally shot near the Zikim goods crossing. The Israeli army did not initially comment on the incident, which took place on Saturday.
The Palestinian Journalists' Association expressed sadness over the death of Chaled al-Madhoun and spoke of a "continuing Israeli campaign against journalists whose aim is to silence Palestinian accounts".
In the middle of the month, four employees of the Arab TV station Al-Jazeera were killed in the city of Gaza. Israel's military had confirmed the death of correspondent Anas al-Sharif. Although the 28-year-old had claimed to be an Al-Jazeera journalist, he had led a terrorist cell of the Islamist Hamas, the army explained.
