The divided Palestinian groups have agreed to transfer the administration of the Gaza Strip to an independent committee of technocrats. This is the result of a joint declaration by various Palestinian organizations that met in the Egyptian capital Cairo. According to media reports, Hamas and its partner organization Islamic Jihad were also involved; Hamas also published the statement on its official Telegram channel. A list of the participating groups was not published.

The committee consisting of Palestinians, together with Arab countries and international institutions, should take over the management of the most important utilities in the coastal strip "on the basis of transparency and accountability", the statement continued.
US President Donald Trump's peace plan envisages the Gaza Strip being governed by a transitional government of Palestinian technocrats under the supervision of an international body. Hamas had already signaled its willingness to do so.
Planned disarmament of Hamas is not mentioned
In the statement, the Palestinian groups spoke out in favor of further implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel presented by the USA. They also emphasized the importance of a UN resolution on the planned deployment of international peacekeeping forces in the Gaza Strip. They called on Israel to withdraw its troops, open all border crossings and allow humanitarian and medical supplies into the coastal area. In addition, comprehensive reconstruction must begin.
There was no mention in the statement of previously controversial points such as the disarmament of Hamas provided for in US President Trump's peace plan and the exclusion of the organization from political participation in the Gaza Strip. It merely emphasized the need for a joint approach by all Palestinian groups. To this end, there should be a meeting of all Palestinian groups with the aim of strengthening the umbrella organization PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization), which was described as the only legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
