Another Palestinian has been killed in confrontations with Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank. A 25-year-old man succumbed to gunshot wounds, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah announced. According to the Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance service, settlers shot him in the back during an attack in Deir Dibwan.

According to Palestinian media reports, the army searched the village and arrested more than 30 people. An Israeli army spokesperson said on request that the reports were being investigated.

The Israeli news portal "ynet" reported that Jewish hikers had been walking in the region and had been pelted with stones by dozens of Palestinians. Only then were shots fired. The claims of both sides could not initially be independently verified.

Increase in settler violence in the West Bank

Since the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023 and the resulting Gaza war, there has been a significant increase in violence by radical Israeli settlers against Palestinians and their property in the occupied West Bank. In the Israeli media, there is increasing talk of "Jewish terror".

Israel's military under pressure due to lack of prosecution

In March, Chief of General Staff Ejal Zamir condemned attacks by radical settlers on Palestinians as "morally and ethically unacceptable". However, the Israeli security forces continue to be accused of not taking decisive enough action against the phenomenon or even siding with aggressive settlers.

Israel conquered the West Bank and East Jerusalem in the 1967 Six-Day War. Today, around 700,000 Israeli settlers live there in the midst of three million Palestinians. The Palestinians claim the territories for their own state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
