Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is waiting for the results of the Russian-American talks in Moscow on an end to the war in Ukraine - and, in his own words, is prepared for anything.

If there is a chance for a quick, global solution, negotiations will continue at the highest level, he said during his visit to Ireland this afternoon, according to translators. He was also prepared for a meeting with US President Donald Trump.

However, the head of state did not rule out the possibility that no breakthrough would be achieved. If the negotiations remained at the level of a dialog, the level of the upcoming talks would not be so high. However, he once again called for results. "Unfortunately, Ukrainians are dying," said Selenskyj.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff was expected in Moscow this Tuesday for talks with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. Negotiations will take place without the participation of Ukraine or other European countries. Selensky confirmed that he had spoken to Witkoff on Monday. "I would like to wait until this evening," said the Ukrainian when asked for an assessment.

Security guarantees of great importance

Selensky reiterated the demand for security guarantees for a long period of time, among other things. "We must end the war in such a way that Russia does not return within a year with the third invasion in ten years," he said. "They have not achieved their goal of occupying our state." Other critical points of the peace plan under discussion were territorial issues and how to deal with the frozen Russian billions in the EU.

The Irish head of government Micheál Martin assured Ukraine of further support. "Today I am pleased to announce that we will be providing a further 100 million (euros) for non-lethal military assistance and an additional 25 million euros to help Ukraine stabilize its energy system," he said.
