The election was carried out with 136 votes out of 166 voting delegates, as reported by Swiss Animal Protection STS on Saturday. The central board and an internal search committee had unanimously recommended that the delegates support Kunz's candidacy. Kunz succeeds Piero Mazzoleni, who had been interim president of the STS since January 2024.
The STS hit the headlines in 2023 when two suspended Board members filed criminal charges against the then Association President Nicole Ruch and former colleagues on the Board. The charges concerned allegations of dishonest management and excessive expense allowances. Ruch denied the allegations. However, she was ultimately dismissed by the STS delegates.
