The phone call between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin is to take place in the afternoon, according to the Kremlin.

The conversation is planned between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Moscow time (2 p.m. and 4 p.m. CET), said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. However, this is not a fixed time frame. "The leaders will talk for as long as they deem necessary," he emphasized.
According to Peskov, two topics are decisive: the normalization of Russian-American relations and the search for a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine. The Kremlin confirmed Trump's statements about a rapprochement of positions. However, there are still many unresolved issues that both presidents need to discuss with each other, said Peskov.
The planned telephone call between the two heads of state is the second since Trump's re-inauguration. The first took place in February. During the election campaign, Trump had boasted of his good relations with Putin and declared that he would be able to end the war of aggression launched by Russia within 24 hours.
He has since described this statement as an intensification of his demand for a quick end to the war, which he has been putting pressure on the attacked Ukraine to do in recent weeks. Trump has expressed his conviction that a ceasefire and subsequent quick peace can be achieved.
