The imprisoned leader of the banned Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK), Abdullah Öcalan, has called on his supporters to lay down their arms. All groups must lay down their arms and the PKK, which is classified as terrorist in Turkey, must disband, according to a statement by Öcalan read out by the pro-Kurdish Dem party in Istanbul.
