Poland's new President Karol Nawrocki sworn in

The 42-year-old historian, who has no party affiliation and was supported by the PiS, emerged as the winner of the run-off election at the beginning of June. The victory of the political newcomer Nawrocki over the liberal mayor of Warsaw Rafal Trzaskowski was a heavy political defeat for the pro-European government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. It is expected that Nawrocki, a Trump supporter and EU skeptic, will try to bring about a change of course in Poland.

Nawrocki will succeed Andrzej Duda, who has to step down after two terms in office. Traditionally, the president in Poland takes the oath of office before the National Assembly, which consists of both chambers of parliament.
