Pope Francis, who has been seriously ill for weeks, has expressed his sympathy to all those who are ill. "I am going through a time of trial and I join the many sick brothers and sisters," he said, according to a text sent in writing by the Holy See. As on the four previous Sundays, the head of the Catholic Church once again had to forego the traditional Sunday prayer in front of tens of thousands of faithful in St. Peter's Square in Rome.

"Our body is weak, but even so, nothing can prevent us from loving, praying, giving ourselves, being there one for the other in faith," the text continues. In it, Francis also called on us to pray for peace, especially in "countries wounded by war": in Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Myanmar, Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Pope has been in Gemelli Hospital in Rome since February 14 and has not been in public since then. The 88-year-old is suffering from complicated bilateral pneumonia. On Saturday evening, the Holy See described his state of health as stable. This confirms the progress made in the past week, it said.
