Pope Leo XIV plans to travel to France at the end of September. The head of the Catholic Church will visit the country from September 25 to 28, Holy See spokesman Matteo Bruni announced. The trip will take place at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, the Church authorities and the head of Unesco, Khaled El-Enany.

The Vatican did not initially publish an itinerary. Bruni only announced a visit to the headquarters of the UN cultural organization Unesco in Paris.

Leo received Macron in an audience at the Vatican a month ago. It was the first official meeting between the French head of state and the Pope, who had been in office for a year, at the Vatican. Leo has not yet traveled to France as Pope. At the end of March, however, the pontiff visited the Principality of Monaco, located between Italy and France on the Mediterranean, for a day.
