Italy Pope receives US Vice President Vance
Pope Francis received US Vice President JD Vance at the Vatican for a brief meeting on Easter Sunday. The meeting took place in the Santa Marta guest house, where the 88-year-old head of the Catholic Church is living again after being released from hospital. This was announced by a Vatican spokesperson.

Vance had already met with the number two of the Catholic church state, Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, on Saturday. President Donald Trump's deputy is staying in Rome with his family over Easter. Vance converted to the Catholic faith in 2019.
The Pope is still suffering from the consequences of life-threatening pneumonia. Since being discharged from hospital four weeks ago, the only foreign guests he has received have been the British royal couple Charles III and Camilla.
