Depending on the region, young adults can save around a thousand francs on their health insurance premiums by switching health insurers. This is the conclusion reached by the insurance and pension group Axa in its 2026 switching report.

According to Alexandra Gmür, Head of Axa Healthcare, young people in particular should check their premium situation carefully every year. "Adults between the ages of 19 and 25 tend to pay a lot and receive few benefits." In the Axa switching report published on Monday, Gmür recommends consistently switching to the cheapest basic insurance.
Men between the ages of 19 and 25 could save CHF 925 by switching insurers in the canton of Geneva. In the cantons of Jura (CHF 800) and Basel-Stadt (CHF 814), the savings potential for young men is also high. At 784 francs, young women could save a lot, particularly in the canton of Graubünden, closely followed by the cantons of Ticino (728 francs) and Zurich (690 francs).
Across all age groups, health costs could have been reduced by an average of CHF 426 per person by switching health insurers last fall, explained Gmür. Compared to the previous year, this amount is smaller - then the average saving was 594 francs per person.
The greatest savings potential is still in the canton of Geneva, where up to 576 francs could be saved by switching health insurers. Geneva was followed by the canton of Ticino with CHF 570 and the canton of Basel-Stadt with CHF 553.
The cantons of Obwalden, Appenzell Innerrhoden and Lucerne could save the least on premiums. According to Gmür, this is because "the premium level in these cantons is generally lower than in cantons with high savings potential."
According to Axa, the third switching report is based on over 54,000 basic insurance changes that were carried out in autumn 2025 via its own switching service.
