The first day of the new year had become a nightmare, said Reynard in the packed congress center in Martigny. These young people in the "Le Constellation" bar had only wanted to celebrate and live their dream.
"Today we are here to honor you, to tell you: we will never forget you. But words and silence will not be enough. Today we must also talk - about who bears responsibility for the disaster," said the politician in a moved and sometimes broken voice.
Reynard thanked the rescue workers, the hospitals at home and abroad and everyone who had shown solidarity. Addressing the young people, he said: "You can cry, but you can also laugh again." Strength can be gained from shared memories.
In German, Italian and English, Reynard said: "One for all - all for one; siamo uniti; in shared grief we stand united." Summarized in German: "United we are strong."
