At a sit-in in the center of Nairobi, a member of the Senate Chamber was arrested, among others.
A few days ago, the National Human Rights Commission (KNHRC) published a report stating that 82 people had been abducted under unexplained circumstances in the East African country since the start of the anti-government protests in June. Most of them were activists who had spoken out against President William Ruto's policies on social media and elsewhere.
Even after weeks of street protests had subsided, people continued to disappear, at least seven in December alone. At present, 29 people are believed to have disappeared.
The police have not yet identified any perpetrators, although some abductions have been recorded by security cameras. In these cases, the victims were forced into unmarked vehicles by armed and masked perpetrators.
