According to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, Russia should have started the war against Ukraine earlier than 2022. "Looking back at the situation in 2022, I think we should have made the decision we made back then earlier," he said during a four-and-a-half-hour question and answer session on television.

The decision to invade Ukraine was made at the time because it had become clear that Russia was being betrayed and Ukraine did not want to adhere to the Minsk agreements for peace.

In this context, he indirectly admitted that he had underestimated the defensive power of the Ukrainians. Russia should have prepared for war much earlier, said the Kremlin leader.

Putin also commented on the question of whether the past almost three years of war had changed him. He said: "I make fewer jokes." And he also laughs less himself.

Ukraine has been defending itself for almost three years against the Russian war of aggression that began in February 2022.
