Ahead of a possible summit with US President Donald Trump on the Ukraine war, Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken with his neighboring states and allies.

According to the Kremlin, Putin informed Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev about his talks with US negotiator Steve Witkoff in Moscow on Wednesday.

Kazakh President Kassym-Shomart Tokayev was also informed. Both interlocutors were said to have supported diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine. The Kremlin did not provide further details of the telephone calls.

Russia and USA prepare summit

So far, neither the USA nor Russia have provided any information on what proposals Witkoff made in Moscow for an end to the war in Ukraine. However, the first summit between the USA and Russia since 2021 has been agreed and could take place in the coming days. A location has not yet been named.

According to reports from Minsk, Putin also spoke on the phone with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. Chinese media also reported on a telephone conversation with head of state Xi Jinping. According to official information, the Kremlin leader also discussed regional problems with his Security Council.

Russia has been at war with Ukraine for almost three and a half years on Putin's orders.
