Putin spoke out in favor of political and diplomatic means to secure peace and stability in the region, it was said. This can be understood as criticism of a possible military strike by the USA and Israel against Iran in order to support the protest movement there.

"The Russian side reaffirmed its willingness to continue its mediation efforts to promote a constructive dialog between all interested states," the Kremlin announced.

Talks also with the Iranian president

Russia is a close ally of Iran, from which Moscow also obtains weapons for its war against Ukraine. According to his spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Putin also spoke with Iranian President Massud Peseshkian. Details would be communicated later, Peskov said.
