After almost two months of radio silence and in view of a possible retaliatory strike by Israel against Iran, US President Joe Biden is expected to speak to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the phone this Wednesday, according to a report.

This was reported by the news portal Axios, citing three US officials. The two would also discuss the conflicts in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. Relations between Washington and Tel Aviv have recently been tense due to American criticism of Israel's conduct of the war.

A week ago, the Revolutionary Guards, Iran's elite unit, fired around 200 missiles at Israel, most of which were intercepted. The attack came after a series of targeted killings by Israel aimed at key players in Iran's network of non-state allies. Israel had announced retaliation.

Axios reported, citing two Israeli officials, that Netanyahu had met with ministers and the heads of the Israeli military and intelligence services on Tuesday evening to decide on the scope and timing of Israel's attacks. According to the statement, Israel's retaliatory measures are "expected to be significant" and will be a combination of airstrikes on military targets in Iran and covert attacks - similar to the killing of Hamas foreign chief Ismail Haniya in Tehran. Israel had also considered possible attacks on Iran's oil infrastructure.

Netanyahu wanted to inform Biden as soon as a decision had been made, it was further reported.
