"Necessary measures have been taken against those who tried to disrupt public order and endanger the security of society," said judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir, according to the Ilna news agency. It was a small number of people.

The alleged murder of a student almost two weeks ago caused a nationwide stir in Iran. His death caused consternation, grief and anger. Numerous young people protested on campus in Tehran, chanting slogans against the Islamic Republic's system of rule. They criticized state surveillance and demanded more security for students.

Suspects already in custody after alleged robbery-murder

A week ago, the authorities reported the arrest of suspects. According to the investigation, the victim resisted the theft of his laptop and cell phone. The suspects then allegedly stabbed the victim twice. The suspects are said to be two men.

A lack of future prospects, political repression and the poor economic situation are causing great dissatisfaction in Iran, particularly among young people. In autumn 2022, the death of a young Iranian Kurdish woman in police custody sparked nationwide protests.
