As the "Times of Israel" reported, citing the Israeli prison authorities, the Palestinians were released hours after the release of Israeli hostages. According to the report, 66 of the Palestinians returned to the West Bank and 14 to East Jerusalem. Nine were taken to the Gaza Strip and 21 others were taken abroad via Egypt.

Outraged by the chaotic scenes at the hostage release in Chan Junis in the south of the Gaza Strip, Israel had initially postponed the release of the prisoners from Israeli prisons. Of the 110 Palestinian prisoners, more than 30 had been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.
