The Russian Ministry of Justice has declared the international journalists' organization Reporters Without Borders (Reporters sans frontières/RSF) undesirable. The ministry in Moscow published the classification on its website. Inclusion in the register is tantamount to a ban in Russia; Russian organizations or private individuals are not allowed to maintain relations with undesirable organizations.

So far, Russia has declared more than 250 foreign organizations undesirable, most of them from EU countries, the USA and Ukraine. Reporters Without Borders, founded in 1985, campaigns for freedom of the press worldwide and cares for imprisoned journalists. So far there has been no reaction from the head office in Paris.

RSF compiles a press freedom index every year. According to this index, Russia is still one of the countries with the least free press in 2025, ranking 171st out of 180 countries.
