According to medical sources, at least 20 Palestinians have been killed in various Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip. Seven people were fatally hit at a distribution point for aid supplies northwest of the city of Gaza, it was reported.

They had been working there to secure the distribution. Seven other people, including five children, were killed in an airstrike on their tent in the city of Gaza. Another person was killed in a drone attack in the north of the Gaza Strip.

In a further incident, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, five people were killed by Israeli fire while waiting for aid south of Wadi Gaza in the central section of the coastal strip. The army said on request that it was investigating the report.

Air strikes in preparation for a ground offensive?

According to the information, there have been several air strikes by the army since the morning hours, including in the city of Gaza. Residents are concerned that these could be preparations for a ground offensive in Gaza. Several buildings have been shelled.

There have been repeated reports of fatal incidents near the distribution points operated by the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). The foundation is supported by Israel and the USA and began its work in the sealed-off coastal area in May after an almost three-month Israeli blockade of aid deliveries.

The war was triggered by the attack on Israel by Hamas and other Islamist terrorist organizations on 7 October 2023, in which around 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 taken hostage in Gaza. According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, more than 61,700 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since then. The figure, which is almost impossible to verify independently, does not distinguish between civilians and fighters.

More than 1,850 people were reportedly killed while trying to receive aid. Aid seekers often have to cross dangerous war zones to get aid supplies.
