According to media reports, Israel intends to send a delegation to the Qatari capital Doha in the coming days for indirect talks with the Islamist Hamas. This was reported unanimously by several Israeli news portals, citing government circles. The talks, in which Qatar, Egypt and the USA are mediating, are intended to lead to a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza war and the release of hostages held by Hamas.

Efforts to achieve a temporary ceasefire have been at a standstill for months. The mediators recently presented a further proposal. In addition to the cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip for at least 60 days, according to media reports it provides for the staggered release of ten Israeli hostages and the handover of the mortal remains of those kidnapped.
In return, a large number of Palestinian prisoners are to be released from Israeli jails. During the ceasefire, the sides are to negotiate a permanent end to the war.
According to Israeli information, at least 20 hostages are still alive. In addition, Hamas is still holding the bodies of 28 abductees. The status of two kidnap victims is unclear.
Security cabinet meets
On Friday, Hamas said it had submitted its positive response to the latest mediation proposal to Qatar and Egypt. According to US President Donald Trump, Israel had already agreed to the "necessary conditions" for the ceasefire several days ago.
Late in the evening, the Israeli security cabinet wanted to meet and formalize the decision to resume indirect negotiations. According to media reports, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to travel to Washington on Sunday and, according to the plans, meet Trump on Monday.
