At least eight people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on a former school building in Gaza, according to the Palestinian Civil Defense.

There were also casualties, including children among the dead, it added. The Israeli army announced that the air force had attacked a command center of the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas in the former school in the city of Gaza. According to the military, Hamas had used the former school building to plan and carry out attacks on Israeli troops. During the airstrike, measures were taken to avoid harming civilians.

Meanwhile, at least two Palestinians were killed in another suspected Israeli airstrike on a vehicle in the south of the Gaza Strip, according to hospital reports. Twelve other people were injured in the attack in Rafah, according to a doctor at the European Hospital in neighboring Chan Junis. An Israeli military spokesman said that the reports were being investigated.

According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, more than 41,270 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the war began on October 7. Around a third of the dead are said to be children and young people under the age of 18. The authority generally does not differentiate between civilians and combatants in its figures. The figures cannot be independently verified.
