Riots Rioting and arson around the Zurich barracks area
Rioters set several fires around the barracks area in the city of Zurich on Saturday night and attacked the police and fire department. The city police used rubber buckshot, irritant gas and a water cannon. One police officer was injured.

Shortly after 00.35 a.m., the Zurich city police received a report that a container was on fire on Zeughausstrasse, they announced on Saturday. The report was received shortly after the end of the May Day festival on the Kasernenareal.
According to the communiqué, further reports of burning electric scooters, containers and street barricades around the barracks area followed at short intervals. While extinguishing the fires and removing the barricades, the police and fire department were attacked several times by masked people with fireworks and glass bottles.
In the meantime, they repeatedly withdrew into the barracks area, it was said. When the police withdrew from the barracks area at around 04:00, the police officers were once again massively attacked with glass bottles.
According to reports, one police officer suffered injuries as a result. He had to be treated in hospital. The exact amount of property damage cannot yet be quantified, according to the police.
