The Venezuelan government has not yet announced how many people were killed and injured during the US operation to capture the authoritarian head of state Nicolás Maduro on Saturday night. The New York Times, citing a senior Venezuelan official, reported that 80 people were killed.

According to the government in Havana, 32 Cubans alone were killed in the US military strike. Security forces from the allied Caribbean state have been deployed in Venezuela for years. They were responsible for Maduro's personal security as bodyguards or ensure discipline in the ranks of the armed forces.
