After narrowly losing out in the first round of voting, Nordmann managed to turn things around on Sunday and won the by-election in the second round. The 53-year-old received 51.04% of the vote, 6800 more than his rival.
As expected, the Social Democrat Nordmann won his victory in the cities. He achieved a top result in his home town of Lausanne in particular. Jean-François Thuillard, on the other hand, won the most votes in the smaller municipalities.
After more than 20 years as a National Councillor, Roger Nordmann is thus entering the executive for the first time. With his victory, the left-wing party retains three seats in the cantonal government - together with Nuria Gorrite (SP) and Vassilis Venizelos (Greens). However, it remains in the minority compared to the four bourgeois state councillors.
