US Secretary of State Marco Rubio believes that the negotiators still have a lot of work to do in their efforts to end the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. It was a "very productive and useful meeting" in which he is sure "further progress" was made, he said after several hours of talks with representatives of Ukraine in the US state of Florida, as can be heard in videos circulated by journalists on social media. At the same time, however, Rubio also emphasized that "there is still a lot to do".

The matter is complicated. There are many aspects that are in flux. There is also another party that needs to be involved. Rubio confirmed that this would happen in the coming days when President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, visits Moscow.

Ukrainian delegation leader Rustem Umjerov called the meeting "productive and successful". "We talked about the future of Ukraine, about everything that is important for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people," he said, according to Ukrainian media. "The USA is very supportive in this." Neither he nor Rubio gave details of the content of the talks.

An American 28-point plan to end the war in Ukraine had recently become known - but this was criticized by many as a "Russian wish list". Europeans and Ukrainians later renegotiated the plan with US representatives, but there were still points of contention.

Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Since then, the country has been defending itself with the help of Western supporters. Despite the peace talks, Russia continues to attack Ukraine with undiminished ferocity.
