Secretary of State Marco Rubio is taking part in talks with Ukraine in Saudi Arabia on behalf of the USA. Rubio will leave for Jeddah on Monday to discuss a possible peace solution for the Russian war of aggression against the country with the Ukrainian side, the US State Department announced in Washington. Rubio will also meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah. On Wednesday, the minister will then travel on to Canada for a meeting with his counterparts from the other G7 states.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the Ukrainian side will be represented at the meeting in Saudi Arabia by his Chancellery Chief Andriy Yermak, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha and Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov, among others. Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian war of aggression for more than three years.

Selensky confirmed his long-known plan to meet with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia on Monday. The country is also under discussion for a possible later meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. However, there is no timetable for this yet.

In February, representatives of the US government had already met with colleagues from Russia in Saudi Arabia to discuss a possible end to the war in Ukraine. Trump and Putin agreed to resume their relations during a phone call in February.
