According to information from Moscow, Russia and Ukraine have carried out a further exchange of prisoners of war. Both sides have handed over and received 146 soldiers each, the Russian Defense Ministry announced. In addition, eight residents of the Kursk region in western Russia were released in the exchange.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the new exchange. "Our people are coming home," he wrote on Facebook. He thanked the United Arab Emirates for their mediation.

Russia has been at war in Ukraine for exactly three and a half years. The direct negotiations between Moscow and Kiev on a possible end to the fighting, which only resumed in May after a long break, have so far made little progress. The warring parties have only agreed on the exchange of prisoners of war. Since then, this has been carried out regularly in several rounds. In particular, seriously wounded and sick soldiers should be released in the exchanges.
