According to the Foreign Ministry in Moscow, the new Russian ambassador in Washington, Alexander Darchiyev, will lead the delegation from Moscow. The US delegation will be led by diplomat Sonata Coulter. Both sides had described earlier talks as useful.
Due to years of strained relations between the USA and Russia, the work of their embassies in the other country is restricted. Both countries have expelled many diplomats. In the rapprochement driven by US President Donald Trump, the embassies were discussed for the first time on February 27 in Istanbul. One result of that meeting was the USA's approval of Darchiyev's appointment.
