Ukraine has once again attacked the Russian hinterland with US ATACMS missiles - this time in the Voronezh region. The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed information from the Ukrainian General Staff on the use of these long-range missiles.

A total of four ATACMS were destroyed. According to the ministry in Moscow, debris from the missiles hit the roof of a gerontological center, a home for orphans and a private property. There were no deaths or injuries among the civilian population.

Kiev announced the attacks against military objects in the Russian hinterland on Tuesday without giving any details. According to the media, there is a military airfield in Voronezh from which Su-34 fighter jets are used to attack Ukraine. The ministry in Moscow, on the other hand, claimed that Kiev had attacked civilian objects with the US missiles.

According to the media, US President Donald Trump declared his willingness to lift the restrictions on the use of long-range US missiles following a meeting with Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Zelensky in September. According to Russian media, this is now the first deployment of ATACMS missiles since Trump took office. Under Trump's predecessor Joe Biden, there had already been such attacks against targets in Russia.

Russia: launchers in the Kharkiv region destroyed

According to Russian information, all ATACMS missiles were shot down by the air defense system. The ministry initially published unverifiable photos showing the remains of the destroyed missiles.

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that it had successfully carried out a counter-strike with Iskander missiles against the launch pads for the US missiles in the Ukrainian region of Kharkiv. The facilities had been destroyed, it said. A video presumably showing the launching of the ramps was initially not verifiable.

There was no confirmation from the Ukrainian side that the facilities had been destroyed. However, more than 30 people were injured in the Kharkiv region after Russian attacks, buildings were severely damaged and cars were burnt out.

Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian war of aggression for more than three and a half years with Western military aid.
