Night-time Russian air strikes have once again caused damage in Ukraine. Russia used an Iskander missile and 176 drones, the Ukrainian air force announced in the morning. It had succeeded in shooting down 139 drones or disabling them with radio interference, but there had also been 37 strikes at 14 different locations.

The Sumy region in the north-east of the country was particularly affected. An 86-year-old woman was injured. According to the regional disaster control authorities, there was damage to residential buildings as well as to civil infrastructure. Over the past 24 hours, the region has been on air alert for a good 18 hours.

The southern Ukrainian region of Odessa was also hit hard. According to Governor Oleh Kiper, the Russian armed forces had once again targeted energy infrastructure objects. A solar plant had also been damaged, he wrote on Telegram. The pictures he added show a large number of fallen, shattered and perforated solar panels.

Systematic shelling

Russia has been systematically attacking the neighboring country's civilian infrastructure since the start of the war. The military in Moscow justifies this tactic by claiming that the electricity generated in energy plants is also used by the Ukrainian defense industry. The Ukrainians are suffering badly from the frequent power cuts, and in some cases water supplies and heating systems are also failing.

Kiev is now also targeting the Russian energy industry - primarily to disrupt the supply of fuel to the military. However, the damage is disproportionate to the extent of the destruction caused by Russia.
